Meet Reagan
With 32 years under her seamstress belt, brand president Reagan’s zest and passion for creating the breezy, resort style, easy-wear Bahamian family brand, Vitae, had its origins rooted in a rich family tapestry of self-taught sewing.
As a young child, Reagan would frequent her grandmother’s house on the weekends just to be around this skilled seamstress who made a living teaching students how to sew, crotchet, knit, and macrame. A soft spoken woman, Reagan’s grandmother would gently instruct and encourage her granddaughter who would then go home and watch her mother sew her own clothes at the dining room table. Reagan’s mom quickly realized her daughter’s interest
and bought her a kiddie sewing machine at the age of seven, which was summarily
put aside when she realized her daughter needed an actual full function sewing
machine to develop her skills.
Once she had access to her mother’s machine, Reagan created seasonal collections for her Barbie dolls bedecking them using sewing techniques she learned from the two ladies in her life. She immersed herself in her craft every chance she got, often frequenting clothing boutiques just to sequester herself in changing booths to study their stitching. She then
experimented with working with different fabrics and honing her sewing techniques.
Fast forward to a few years later, Reagan’s burgeoning talents soon led to her creating her own designs for daily wear which she modeled and shared on her Instagram page and blog, Sew She Made (formerly Kama Sewtra). Her chic styles, sewing tips and advice resonated with fashion lovers, and Reagan quickly amassed over 50,000 Pinterest and blog views
per month. Amidst calls from her Instagram followers to sew for hire or start a line of her own, Reagan took the plunge and the rest, as they say, is herstory!
After toying with the idea of starting her own line, Reagan’s love for her country fostered by her primary job in tourism finally birthed Vitae in an effort to preserve Bahamian culture for future generations. Drawing inspiration from Bahamian scenes of native flora and fauna, daily life, historical sites and cultural depictions, the legacy of Reagan’s family history is intertwined in the very fabrics and one of a kind designs that will adorn happy customers as
they resort to life.
